Bread & Circus Wholefoods Canteen in Alexandria serves healthy and delicious little nook that draws quite a crowd of regulars for their healthy, veg-centric, options and market-influenced fare. It was a sunny afternoon and i arrived here for lunch, i felt in love with the Bread & Circus once i stepped into the cafe – can’t help but smile at the strategically placed eggplants, pumpkins or lemons that grace the rough wooden tables.

Bread & Circus Wholefoods Canteen serves all-day breakfast such as sourdough or biodynamic breads, things with fruits such as superbowl, fruit salads, bircher, porridge, etc, while the lunch menu starts from 12pm: soups, sandwich boxes, salads and daily plates.
Started with a healthy glass of greens, a cup of cold pressed juice made of nourishing kale, spinach, aplle, lemon and pineapple. The little glass pariced at $6 and the large one at $8, a little bit pricy but it preserves nutrients and enzymes, you can also ask for a pinch of sea salt for added minerals.
Here comes my sandwich box – it made me so hungry. The box was made up of goat cheese, red cabbage salad, brown rice salad, avocado, tomato, cucumber, nuts, two slices of homemade sourdough and a thin slice of butter, side with homemade basil oil. It was my kind of food 🙂 Besides the goat cheese sandwich box, there are also some meat selections such as preservative-free free range smoked ham, bangalow pork salami, preservative-free pino’s smoked turkey and so on.
I loved the sourdough which has a lovely crust and soft, chewy inside. The salad was nicely seasoned, and the savory of goat cheese made everything more delicious. Housemade basil oil paired nice no matter with the breads or salad.
I am a veggie addict and plus i am heading to a heavy dinner, i ordered another salad plate for my daily veggie needs. I chosed the small size, there were also regular size and sharing portion available.
You can select as much as varieties of salads no matter which size you choose, the salad selections changes daily, a sample menu such as fresh cabbage kale sprouts and shisho w/ yuzu and pomegranate, roasted fennel yellow squash and sweet pepper w/ chilli flakes garlic and crushed almond, lemony charred asparagus farro and wild rocket w/ garlic chilli flakes and extra virgin olive oil.
Bread & Circus is a nice place to go for a cleanse meal, especially if you are a veggie lover like me, i am sure you will love the place. I am not sure whether meat lovers will love this place, but everyone need a healthy diet.
