The Living Cafe & Deli is a healthy raw food café in Bukit Timah. Started by Dana Heather, a Master Nutritionist and nutrition experts,The Living Cafe & Deli provides genuinely healthy food and drink that is truly tasty, affordable, and accessible to everyone.
The interior is simple and naturali, and well lit with a retail shop for healthy foods on the second level.
There is also wide selection of vegan-friendly raw desserts.
Pure Green Wheatgrass ($9.00)
Made of organic wheatgrass, celery, spinach, parsley, tastes very pure without any added-in sweetener, definitely a healthy drink to accomplish with your meal.
Avocado Cucumber Soup ($9.00) can be served either cold or warm. Made of avocado, cucumber, chili, lemon, lime and cilantro, it was creamy and refreshing.
Pumpkin Rocket Salad ($18.00) with roasted pumpkin, rocket, caramelized onion, sweet pea, goat cheese, pumpkin seeds, served with balsamic orange dressing was another soulful dish. The portion is larger than we expected, all the ingredients were very fresh, and the dressing was not too heavy. But for the price, maybe salad bars offer higher-value salads. It is a truth that salads are alway overpriced.
Veggie Nori Roll ($12.00) with avocado, beet, cucumber, carrot, leafy greens, red cabbage, wasabi, cashew mayo, balsamic orange dressing and bell pepper sauce was another popular starter from the menu. The combination of the crunchy veggies and the creamy avocado was lovely.
Veggie Delight Pizza ($17.00) was probably the best vegetarian pizza i have had so far. Different from the regular pizza base which made of flour – probably chewy, this vegetarian pizza has a very thin and crunchy wholemeal base, more like crackers. Topped with pumpkin, shitake, sweet pea, tomatoes, zucchini, onion, capsicum, pumpkin seeds, and macadamia cheese, the house-made vegetarian mayo which was a little bit spicy but it enhance the overall aroma of the pizza, it was indeed our favorite dish of the meal.
Quinoa Veggie Burger ($18.00)
The burger comes with coleslaw & sweet potato wedges (mine was changed to salad ).The original version was mainly made of wholemeal buns and quinoa patty, with carrot, celery, spinach, bell pepper, onion, mushrooms, basil, balsamic, cashew mayo. But i am not a big fan of carbs, I requested for a burger without quinoa patty, instead with more vegetables. The cost was still $18.
I got grilled eggplant and mushrooms, fresh sprouts, lettuce, tomatoes, and raw dijon mustard in my burger. The mushrooms tastes really good, full of char-grilled flavor and was quite juicy. The only thing was not kind of disappointed is the buns, which were a little bit dry.
Herbed Salmon Burger ($18.00) with onion, tomatoes, lettuce, dill, sweet & chili sauce and cashew mayo. It was much spicy than the previous burger, but it was very flavorful.
We decided to try a raw dessert although all the cakes in the counter looks very rustic. We chose the most popular Raw Cranberry & Lemon Pistachio Cake ($9.00) and it was really good – the filling was smooth, light and tastes naturally sour. Instead of the traditional buttery tart, the tart base was made of raw seeds and dried berries.
It was a really great dining experience. Although i loves seafood and fine dining, but i am a plant-based eater at home. It is really important for us to have a healthy diet, and Living Cafe & Deli is definitely a great choice in town. I am not sure if the meat-lovers will love the taste of the food, but i love the food here although a bit pricy. By the way, there’s free Wifi, and no service charge and additional taxes!
