Basilico is a award-winning Italian restaurant in the Regent Hotel Singapore, currently helmed by Executive Sous Chef Angelo Ciccone, who was born in Locorotondo near Bari in southeast Italy. As he said “Life is all about fresh seafood and good quality olive oil.”, indeed, Basilico emphasis on fresh, seasonal and authentic Italian cuisine and offering both a la carte and buffet options. Chef Angelo Ciccone now brings Italy’s finest at Basilico, a year-long culinary adventure throughout the country’s beautiful and abundant regions.
The restaurant includes a rotisserie, espresso bar, walk-in wine cellar and an alfresco style-dining at the terrance overlooking the pool, capturing the informality of Italian culture of perfection. Basilico can hold 202 guests in door and 33 guests at the alfresco at a same time. There are also 2 private rooms for for party for 10.
The buffet counters includes a wide range of appetizers: cold cuts, marinated Seafood, vegetables, seasonal leaves and cheeses.Most of them are sourced from Italy even the fresh tomatoes. Here you can also enjoy Basilico’s homemade breads with your favorite olive oil and condiments. It is really hard to say which is my favorite because everything was fresh and delicious, the flavors of each ingredients matches well even if you mixed and match by your self.
The Oven-baked Focaccia with Black Summer Truffle and Robiola Cheese(v)($29) is definitely a must-try. It was high in cheesy flavor, creamy but not greasy. With generous amount of black truffle to enhance the flavor of the pizza – indeed die for.
I really enjoyed the Carnarli Rice with Tiger Prawns and Lemon Zest, too. Served with yellow and green zucchini, fresh dill, the prawn itself was big in size and very bouncy. Carnarli rice was perfecly cooked to al dante, and absorbed all the umami from the prawns. Comprising with a twist of lemon to balancing the entire dish.
Guests can also start the taste tour begins at Lazio, know for its Roman culinary roots and rich and fertile hills that lend heavier flavors to the region’s cuisine such as Spaghetti in Amatriciana Sauce with Pork Pancetta, Red Onions and Roman Pecorino. Alternatively, try the Pan-roasted Sea Bass Fillet, Asparagus Gratin and Braised Umbria Lentils which takes you to region of Umbria.
Sardinian pasta with lobster, scallop, scampi and clams with artichokes and red mullet roe brought us to the Sardegna Island.The dish comes with a lovely burnt aroma, then grated some cheese to enhance the flavor. The lobster and scallops were very juicy, infused by some chilies which tastes really good. The highlight of the dish must be the homemade Sardinian pasta. Al dante and absorbed all the essence flavor from the seafood.
Move on to Sicily Island with Sicilian Roasted Rack of lamb with”Tarocco” Blodd Oranges, Caponata, which is a classic eggplant salad.
The lamb was very juicy and flavorful, The Nero d’Avola Wine sauce pairs well with the lamb. The Caponata has a lovely sour twist and balanced the red meat so well.
“Casucavaddu” Pecorino Cheese Arancino with pine Nuts and green pea was also lovely. It has a very crispy outer layer, leave the inside cheesy but not greasy.
Then comes our favorite part – dolci (dessert). Start from the Central Italy with Classic Florentine “Zuppa Inglese” with Alkermens Liquor. It was seriously heavenly – wonderfully crispy skin with a rich and creamy filling. Compared perfectly with a twist of Alkermens liqur.
Sicilian Cannolo stuffed with Ricotta cream, Bronte Pistachio and Dark Chocolate Chips was also good, very strong in chocolate flavor and balanced nicely with the pistachio and flavor. While the previous dessert still wins over.
There are also a lot other desserts at the buffet counter such as gelato, which are homemade everyday.
Basillico is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Singapore. NIce ambiance, efficient service, kids-friendly and has a wide range of authentic Italian flavors. My favorite food here is their homemade pasta, other food are also awesome. Recommend!
