A food trip to Hong Kong is incomplete without eating quality roast goose. There are tones of small stalls and fine restaurants serve roast goose, one of the local’s top picks as well as mine personal favourite is Yat Lok Restaurant in Central. This is the second year that Yat Lok being featured on the Michelin Guide Hong Kong.

Yat Lok is a quite small restaurant which can fit about 50 guests at a time, you may have to share a table with other guests which is quite common in a cosy small local eatery in Hong Kong. As a Michelin-starred restaurant, i admit that the service was so poor compare to Michelin-one-starred fine dining restaurants, while let the food speaks.
For the famous roast goose, you can choose roast goose over rice as one dish, or roast goose with rice noodles, which are the most popular items at Yat Lok. You may also order 1/4 roast goose and choose the upper or bottom part of the goose like us. The drumstick is more expensive than the upper part but it is convinced a better part by most people. 1/4 orders come with complimentary white rice.
Other than roast goose, chaw siew is another popular dish at Yat Lot. We were heading to dinner very soon so we didn’t try the chaw siew, but i’ve heard a lot good stories about it.
The roast goose came with a ridiculously delicious smell with shinning goose oils on its skin, side with Yat Lok’s special sweet plum dipping sauce. The meat was succulent and flavourful by itself, the crispy skin with moderate fat is nothing but amazing. The dipping sauce balanced the meat very well. We also enjoyed it with the spicy sauce and rice.
A lot of people complaint about the rude service at Yat Lok but we didn’t encounter any disasters there. I always talk in a good manner and didn’t bother the servers when i eat out, and my partner and I actually found the owner’s wife was quite friendly, as well as other staffs there. Yat Lok is definitely somewhere shouldn’t be missed in Hong Kong.
