Hong Kong | Sing Kee Seafood Restaurant, Sai Kung 勝記海鮮酒家, 西貢

Although have been to Hong Kong for hundreds of times, i actually have never get out the city. We finally made a visit to Sai Kung, New Territories to enjoy a closer touch of nature and sea.
After spending the afternoon sailing and visiting some of the small islands nearby, we came back to the main street and heading to one of the best seafood restaurants in the area, Sing Kee Seafood Restaurant – one of the two seafood restaurants honored michelin 1 star 2015.

Similar to most of other seafood restaurants in the area, you can order seafood at the fish tanks and choose the way of cooking. Besides the original market price of each kind of seafood, an additional cooking charge will be added to the bill.

We ordered half portion of Double-boiled Fish Soup of The Day ($68) as we want to leave more room for the seafood. The fish soup was perfectly cooked to white, tastes very ‘real’ without any artificial flavors. I can feel all the nutritions flew into my stomach, with a little bit creamy texture and sweetness from the fresh figs inside.

Deep Fried Crispy Beancurd 脆皮豆腐

A pop-pick starter at Sing Kee. The tofu was deep-fried, and seasoned with salt and pepper. The outer layer was crispy while inside very smooth and silky.

Razor Clam in Black Bean Sauce 金不換炒蟶子
The razor clams were huge and fresh, sauteed with homemade black bean sauce, which had a great flavor. The razor clams were cooked to tender with a bit chewy.

椒鹽瀨尿蝦 Salt and Pepper Mantis Shrimps

We are not big fans of Mantis shrimps because its really troublesome to eat it. But as the manager highly recommend this, and the mantis shrimps are huge as we see from the fish tank, we finally decided to give it a try.

This was an highlight of the night. The shrimps were perfect deep fired with salt and pepper, and a little bit chili. The overall flavor was lovely, and we could never want to stop sucking it once started eating.The meat was perfectly cooked to tender, tastes really delicate and sweet.

Steamed Scallops with Vermicelli and Homemade Distillers 酒糟粉絲蒸元貝

The scallops were really huge! Very juicy, tender and bouncy by itself. The pink homemade distillers made the vermicelli pink as well, looks so delicious. The flavor of the distillers was great, with a very lovely scent and works perfect with the scallops.

椒鹽鮮鮑  Salt/Pepper Baked Abalones

The most famous dish at Sing Kee, which was definitely another highlight of the night. Although several dishes of our dinner were deep-fried and salt-peppered, the tastes of them were actually different because of the seafood themselves. The abalone was very juciy and tender, with a high flavor of salt and pepper but didn’t come over the flavor of abalone itself.

Braised Gai Lan with Black Fungus上湯雲耳浸芥藍

Bring some greens to the table. The gai lan was super tender, even better than those i had in 2/3 stars restaurants in the city. We usually don’t have the soup in such dishes but the soup base was clean, simple but amazing. We asked the manager whether that’s chicken soup or pork soup, he said it was simply prepared with vegetables. So impressive.

Ended with complimantary petit fours, which inclues Osmanthus jelly, Yakult jelly and yuzu jelly.

The dining experience at Sing Kee was great, especially for people who get used to stuck in the city like us. We will definitely come back next time for its high-quality seafood!
