The name of the restaurants means ‘lotus pond’, as what you see once entering the restaurant-two big lotus ponds decorated with lily pods and lotus flowers. The overal ambiance is very ‘Thai’ but high-end and elegant. There are totally 66 seats in the main dining room, mostly are semi-private booth seating.
There are two different lunch sets, each include amuse bouche, a starter, a main, a dessert and tea. A la carte menu is also available during lunch period. For dinner, they do have two dinner sets.
Welcome drink:lemongrass, ginger and honey
Nibblings: Crispy Kaffir Lime Scented Lotus Root, Roasted Chasew Nut Soya Meringue, Homemade Squid and Prawn Chip with Oyster Aioli
Hokkaido Scallops, Tamarind and Lemongrass
The presentation of the first course is really pretty, finished by the sweet-chili sauce as soon as it came to the table. Sided by deep-fried shrimps, pumpkin and carrot puree,
The scallops were perfectly pan-fried, the texture was tender with a little bit chewy, just like a firmer pudding. The sweet-chili sauce and deep-fried shrimp brought a Thai twist, and tastes really lovely.
Butter Fish in Aromatic Coconut Milk and Sauteed Mushroom
The finishing coconut milk was served after it comes to the table, which is on the fine-dining scale.
Similar to the black cod i had in Eat Me, the coconut milk was really delicious – milky, a little bit spicy with awesome flavour of coconut. The skin of the butter fish was deep-fried to cispy, even after several minutes photo taking and soaking in the milk, it was still crispy. The fish is not that kind of ‘sashimi’ tender like i had in Japan, but was basically tender and not over-cooked.
The main dish also comes with a bowl of jasmine rice-not the dry kind you had in food courts or street food stalls, it was well cooked to sticky.
Dessert: Pandan Ice Cream, Pistachio and Jelly
The dessert comes on a wood, and smells really ‘tropical’. Made of iced coconut, toasted almong, pistachio cake and jelly, and pandan ice cream. The strong flavor of pandan and coconut really made me mouth-watering, and i love the whole thing a lot.
The dining experience at Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin was quite impressive, personally think it is much better than Nahm and Bo.Lan (maybe i shouldn’t put them on the same scale as they offers different type of cuisines) . Anyway, you shouldn’t miss this awesome place with Thai-inspired gastronomy when traveling to Bangkok.
